New Single
Track – Dark Side of the Sun
Artist – Jose James
Album - 1978
Genre - Alternative/Indie, Rock, R&B, Soul
My take – He has a couple great retro/neo R&B/Soul albums and this recent track brings a bit of rock and rap to his retro style.
New Album
Album – Hysterical Strength
Artist - Deadletter
Top Tracks – A Haunting, Hysterical Strength, Deus Ex Machina, Auntie Christ
Genre - Alternative/Indie Rock, Post-Punk
My take – A debut post-punk album with prominent bass lines as you would expect but also includes a great sax player as a lead throughout the album, which adds a bit of depth. The vocal delivery reminds me a bit of The Clash, at times and some tracks are reminiscent of Bauhaus in their mood. The album as a whole is a bit angular and disjointed in a good way. They are not just revisiting past themes but are creating a sound of their own.
New Album
Album – Sonido Cósmico
Artist - Hermanos Gutiérrez
Top Tracks - Abuelita, El Fantasma,Sonido Cósmico, Los Navegantes,
Genre – Latin, Instrumental Rock, Neo-Psychadelia
My take – Mood music at it’s finest. Sometimes it makes me feel like I’m riding my trusty steed out of town in sad triumph on my way to a hidden surf break on the dark side of the moon. I know it makes no sense, it’s just how I feel.
Fave Track
Track – Nuclear Fusion
Artist – King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Album - Nuclear Fusion
Genre – Alternative/Indie Rock, Neo-Psychadelia, Neo-Prog,
My take – A more modern, electric guitar/organ infused track with a bit of surf rock feel to it. These guys are prolific in their output and this is from my favorite album of theirs.
