New Track
Track - Never Again
Artist - Thomas Azier
Genre - Post-Punk
My take – This single was released a few weeks ago, which I hope is the first from a new album. It’s a mellow, moody, track that evokes a dark, rainy street corner with neon signs and a flickering street light. For me, anyway. Too bad it’s under 3-minutes long as I can’t wait to hear what happens next.
New Album
Album – Recall
Artist - Ghost Coach
Top Tracks – On Beyond, In Plain Sight, On the Crest, Never Go Back
Genre - Soft Rock, Adult Contemporary
My take – If you want to be transported back to Miami Vice, cruising in your Ferrari with Crockett and Tubbs, this album will do it. I’m reminded of Steve Winwood, Phil Collins, Kenny Loggins, Mr. Mister and Peter Gabriel. The nostalgia is strong on this one.
Fave Album
Album – Thin Mind
Artist - Wolf Parade
Top Tracks – Julia Take Your Man Home, Out Of Control, Against The Day
Genre - Alternative/Indie, Glam-Rock
My take – A voice reminiscent of Bowie, this album released 5-years ago and feels like it was written with live gigs in mind. It is a modern take on glam rock that never feels like they are ripping it off but are creating something new.
Fave Track
Track – In a Casket’s Ride
Artist - Black Salvation
Album – Uncertainty is Bliss
Genre - Post-Punk
My take – The punk edge of post-punk, this single is pretty indicative of the whole album but is definitely the standout. With a goth tinge, the distant, echoed vocals sound like Bono in his early days if he had chosen a harder path. My only gripe is the production value could be better, but it gives the sound a raw, grimy feel to it. It’s 7-minutes long and it doesn’t really let up once it gets going.
