90s Album
Album – Cure For Pain
Artist - Morphine
Top Tracks – All Wrong, Cure For Pain, Sheila
Genre - Alternative/Indie
My take – Two string slide bass and sax and Mark Sandman’s sleepy vocals are all front and center on an album that alternates between upbeat and slow groove.
00s Album
Album – Consent to Treatment
Artist - Blue October
Top Tracks – Independently Happy, Breakfast After 10, Conversation Via Radio, The Answer
Genre - Alternative/Indie
My take – A harder version of Dave Matthews with great use of strings and poignant lyrics, often about life’s struggles and addiction.
10s Album
Album – Information
Artist - Eliot Sumner
Top Tracks – Information, After Dark, Firewood, Species
Genre - Alternative/Indie
My take – If you hear similarities between Eliot and Sting/The Police, there is good reason. Eliot’s father is Sting and their vocal similarities are uncanny, as are some of their musical leanings. Previously in a band named I Blame Coco, their solo effort is a level above those efforts, in my opinion.
20s Album
Album – Aleph
Artist - Private World
Top Tracks – Magic Lens, Spine, Jones to Engel
Genre - New Wave, Alternative
My take – Be transported straight back into a John Hughes film. If you’re a fan of Roxy Music and Talking Heads, you will probably find something you like on this album.
