00s Album
Album – Blakroc
Artist - Blakroc
Top Tracks – Why Can’t I Forget Him, Ain’t Nothing Like You, Hope You’re Happy, What You Do to Me
Genre - Rap, Rock, Blues, R&B
My take – This album is hard to classify as it is a collaboration between The Black Keys, Wu-Tang, Lady Wray and Damon Dash along with a host of others. What they created is an album of rap/blues/rock/R&B that is definitely unique and I find compelling.
10s Album
Album – Pony
Artist - Orville Peck
Top Tracks – Dead Of Night, Big Sky, Hope To Die,
Genre - Country, Alternative/Indie, Country Rock
My take – A Canadian singer/songwriter that sounds like a mash-up of Elvis, Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak and Morrissey. He has a definite old school country vibe but with a modern twist and sometimes it sounds like a soundtrack to a spaghetti western showdown.
20s Album
Album – Be Good The Crazy Boys
Artist - Art Feynman
Top Tracks – All I Can Do, He Dances Light, Passed Over,
Genre - New Wave, Alternative/Indie
My take – If Talking Heads had made an album between Remain In Light and Speaking In Tongues, this very well could have been it. He does fly a little too close to that star at times but it can be forgiven because there are some gems in here.
20s Album
Album – Eyes of Glass
Artist - Stella Rose
Top Tracks – Faithful, Death Rattle, Jane, Clean, Angel
Genre - New Wave, Alternative
My take – Another daughter of an 80s rocker, Stella Rose (Gahan) is the daughter of Depeche Mode frontman, Dave Gahan. While you may hear some of dad’s influence here and there, this is definitely not an 80s new wave album. The first half is heavy, distorted, grimy rock and roll, through and through with elements of PJ Harvey and NiN. The second half mellows out with some classic sounds to it and that’s where you hear some Songs of Faith & Devotion elements.
