New Album
Album – All The Not So Gentle Reminders
Artist - David Ramirez
Top Tracks – Waiting On The Dust To Settle, The Music Man, Twin Sized Beds, Holiday (Crush)
Genre - Alternative/Indie, Folk, Singer/Songwriter
My take – Heartland, Americana, singer/songwriter, folk, whatever you call it, his voice and delicate instrumentation are what make him special. His baritone conveys a mellow, soothing calm and is a pleasure to listen to.
New Album
Album – Okan Okunkin
Artist - Arsenal
Top Tracks – Mendeleev, Hey Ghost, Moonlight Calls
Genre - Alternative/Indie, Electronic
My take – The album starts out with a groovy bass line and hand claps then bongos chiming in and finally the rhythm guitar before building to vocals that are reminiscent of 80s U2. The first few tracks on the album are stellar and diverse but then it shifts gear in a complete genre shift that failed to grab me on the back half. The first few songs are worth it though.
New Album
Album – How Love Bends
Artist - Reb Fountain
Top Tracks – Come Down, Forever
Genre - Alternative/Indie
My take – Wispy vocals, atmospheric synths, piano, guitar, strings… this album is a gentle work that utilizes all of the above. It takes me back to the days of Tori Amos, and Fiona Apple.
New Album
Album – Night Life
Artist - The Horrors
Top Tracks – The Silence That Remains, The Feeling Is Gone
Genre - Alternative/Indie, Goth, Post-Punk
My take – A sound that mixes elements of 80s/90s goth and industrial acts like Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy and NiN. Each track channels a different influence which keeps it interesting but there are wide swings in mood and energy so every track might not appeal to every listener.
Fave Track
Track – You and Me
Artist - You+Me
Genre - Alternative/Indie, Folk
My take – Pink got together with Dallas Green of City and Colour to produce this awesome folk album and their voices form an amazing duet. The album is a killer folk album and this is my fave track.
