NToM #7
Welcome to New Tune on Monday. There is some good heavy metal coming out right now so I am doing my best to balance that with favourite albums and tracks from lighter genres. My hope is that regardless of the issue, there will be something that will appeal to everyone each week, regardless of taste.
As always, you can go to the NToM Linktree page: NToM and choose the tracks or albums you want to listen to. To import the playlist into your library click this link: NToM#7
New Single
Single - Starburster
Artist - Fontaines D.C.
Genre - Alternative, Indie-Rock
My take – Thumping bass, strings, almost abrasive at times, this track is something new from the band and a good intro to their new album, Romance.
New Album
Album – Greif
Artist - Zeal & Ardor
Top Tracks – Kilonova, Disease, Thrill, Sugarcoat
Genre - Heavy Metal, Black Metal, Rock
My take – This is probably the most accessible of their albums as there are some mellower tracks here. They fuse black spirtual music from the slavery era with black metal on a lot of their songs and it is super original. This is heavy stuff, for sure, with influence by QOTSA and NIN at times.
Fave Album
Album – Nameless
Artist - Dominique Fils-Aimé
Top Tracks - Strange Fruit, Birds, Nameless, Rise
Genre – R&B, Soul, Jazz
My take – This is an amazing talent from Montreal and the production value on this album is second to none. You can hear details like the vibration of the upright bass strings and the voice forward recording lets her show you what she can do. This album can be listened to at high volume and shines when you do.
Fave Track
Track – The Last Dance
Artist – St. Paul & The Broken Bones
Album - The Alien Coast
Genre – Alternative, Retro-Soul, Disco, R&B
My take – 70s disco tune that is super danceable and at times has elements of a Stranger Things soundtrack.
