New Single
Track – Weak In Your Light
Artist – Nation of Language
Album - Strange Disciple
Genre - Alternative, Synth-Pop, New Wave
My take – Shades of New Order and Depeche Mode in this track with its warbly bass and electronic percussion. We keep coming back to this one in our household.
New Album
Album – Melodies of Atonement
Artist - Leprous
Top Tracks – Atonement, My Specter, Like a Sunken Ship, Limbo
Genre - Alternative Metal, Heavy Metal, Prog-Metal, Prog-Rock
My take – I teased this album a couple weeks ago when I shared Like A Sunken Ship as my favourite new track. Well, the album dropped and there are some more gems on this one, and not all as hard as that track. Most songs follow the same formula, which is a good one, where they start softly and slowly and ultimately build to a satisfying crescendo. The lead singer’s voice has angelic qualities to it and he shows it off throughout.
Fave Album
Album – Storm Queen
Artist - Grace Cummings
Top Tracks - Heaven, Up In Flames, Freak,
Genre – Alternative Folk, Indie, Folk, Singer/Songwriter
My take – A voice that fools you into believing she is in her middle age, it’s hard to believe she is in her twenties. Utilizing, guitar, piano, strings and occasional sax, she keeps her raspy voice under tight control, until she doesn’t. The raw power she has is something to hear and it took me a few listens to this album before I fully appreciated it. Storm Queen is an amazing track and is on my all-time faves playlist.
Fave Track
Track – Brave Men
Artist – Gramatik/Eskobars
Album - The Age Of Reason
Genre – Electronic, Downtempo, Club/Dance
My take – Funky electronica with synth for vocals that starts off slowly and eventually breaks into a bass heavy dubstep groove. Super fun track.
